GIANT SIDE OF TEXAS
in 1916, the citizens of Lubbock Texas demanded reliable and
competitively priced electricity and they used the West Texas Pioneering
Spirit, not looking to others to meet their needs. Instead, they
created their own municipal power company! Over the years, it has prospered
to having three power plants, nearly forty substations, hundreds of miles
of distribution lines and combined billing for your
electric, water, sewer, storm water and solid waste fees in Lubbock.
In 2004, the citizens of Lubbock reaffirmed their original intentions
though an election when over 83% of voters supported the continued
prosperity under citizen control of Lubbock Power & Light.
